Task 1 - Engineer: A systematic being

First human powered, then steam powered, now hydrocarbon fuel powered and possibly solar powered in the future. This is the evolution of automotive technology in human history which brings great convenience and comfort to human life and is also the result of many engineers' relentless effort in pursuing perfection.

Engineers have only recently ventured into the services sector and the demand for them is increasing. Why now and why engineers particularly, we asked. This is attributed to the increasingly complex logistic structure and the need of a systematic and yet efficient system. Engineers fit into the picture as the ideal people to design and/or manage such systems as the history has shown their capabilities of doing so.

How engineers are capable of completing such difficult tasks is ascribed to the training and curriculum of their education. Whether it is mechanical, chemical or computer engineering, all engineering educations are consist of practical, problem solving training with a systematic approach; promoting innovation while ensuring practicality and efficiency in any solutions

These trainings nurture the innovative and critical thinking ability in an engineer. Engineers are educated to systematically approach each problem they encountered which involves the process of identifying the roots of the problems, coming up with solutions, ensuring the solutions' feasibility and improving the solutions before combining them into a single solution.

Engineers are trained to solve problems in order to achieve certain objectives such as cost or operation efficiency, this requires them to process much complex information. In engineering education, there are ample of real life problems which provide them the opportunities to train themselves. The experience and various info processing, problem solving skills they acquire from these trainings are very practical and crucial in designing a good solution.

In short, engineers are capable of systematically analyze complex information and apply a holistic approach in designing a solution because they have been trained to do so in their engineering education, and of which they have been doing since then. It would only be natural for them to do so whether they are in the manufacturing or the services sector.
